Easy DIY Carpet Refresh
My dog is constantly rubbing his face into my carpet. He’s a long haired ShihTzu and treats my floors like his personal napkin. We bathe him and clean him, but between kids and pets, my ivory carpets can take a beating.
Putting chemicals or Febreeze on my floor to freshen it up is not an option. As much as I don’t like my pups poor habits, I surely don’t want him rubbing his face into a bunch of sprayed on toxins, or the thought of my kids tumbling and playing on a pretty carpet cleaned with yuck.
Typical cleaners stick to the fibers and don’t fully wash off. And all it takes is 26 seconds before those cancer causing, hormone disrupting, respiratory inhaled sprays and soaps absorb into our bodies and begin their toxic overload. It sounds a bit dramatic, but with all the yuck we are exposed to every day, that’s just one more thing I don’t want to add to the list. The more we can eliminate the better.
If you’re feeling those same convictions, here’s a super easy fix that takes seconds to make. Combine 2 C baking soda with 1/2 C Organic Cornstarch and 1 tablespoon unscented Castile Soap flakes. Add 20 drops Juniper Berry essential oil and 10 drops Lemon essential oil. Shake a thin layer onto your carpet, and scrub any stains with a soft cloth. Let the mixture sit for 20 minutes, then vacuum it all up! Baking soda and cornstarch absorb odors and lift grease and grime, while the soap flakes tackle tough stains. The added essential oils leave a fresh, clean scent and your house will smell AMAZING...naturally!
