Hey hey, friends! On to month two of our newest team building activity, our April Team Theme Scent! What we are doing is smelling up each month with three AMAZING essential oils that we will use team-wide and share all over social media. The point? To reap all the benefits of these super fun oils, as well as to spread some inspiration to our friends, family and team mates all over the world!
How do you share? Grab your oils, snap a picture when you use them, share what you used it for and post it to your IG or FB account with the hashtag #Aprilteamthemescent and #findyourrootsgatherhere at the bottom of your caption. That's it! Super simple, super fun! That way when any of us search these hashtags, we can all see the fun and inspiring ways you used the oils and we can try it too!!!
To give you some ideas of how to use this month's selection, I've compiled some info to get you stoked! Let's start with Grapefruit!!!
GRAPEFRUIT ESSENTIAL OIL:
Grapefruit is amazing because it boosts energy & metabolism, and suppresses appetite and cravings. Because of this, it's been effectively proven to aide in weight loss!!! Bonus? It also works to detox the body! It's beautiful citrus scent works to boost moods as well, working as quickly as 22 seconds in the lymphatic brain when diffused. Say whaaaaa?!
Because Grapefruit contains high amounts of limonene, and is rich in antioxidants, it's also known for it's immune boosting properties! Grapefruit also reduces extra fluid in the body that would otherwise make us heavy and lethargic, putting great strain on the heart.
Another perk to this super fun oil is that it can be used for spot treatment in your regular skin care regimen. Just remember that citrus oils are photosensitive, so be careful not to apply within 24 hours of going out in the sun.
IDEAS FOR USE:
+Make a sugar scrub to slough away dull, dry skin. See my recipe here!You could also us the same as a lip scrub to smooth dry, chapped lips.
+Use aromatically in a diffuser necklace
+Create a fresh linen spray by adding 10-15 drops to a 2 oz glass spritz bottle with a splash of witch hazel and fill the rest with water.
+Apply a couple drops to the underside of your favorite spring scarf for a beautiful, bright aroma.
+Diffuse through your home to eliminate any stinky odors.
+Use Grapefruit to combat hangovers. Grapefruit oil is a powerful gallbladder and liver stimulant, so it can help relieve head tension, cravings and sluggishness following an over consumption of alcohol. To help alleviate the symptoms, diffuse grapefruit essential oil in your home, add one to two drops to water or use it topically over your skin, such as on your throat and neck. It works to increase detoxification and urination, while putting a hold on cravings that can occur due to hormonal and blood sugar level changes resulting from alcohol.
+Mix with a carrier oil and apply twice per day to reduce cellulite!!!
+Furniture Polish anyone? Combine with olive oil and massage into furniture. Wipe off excess and voila!
+Head Tension Relief: Massage into temples and inhale directly from the bottle.
+Help your body cleanse itself by adding grapefruit essential oil to your water or smoothies and massage the oil directly over the liver.
+Help support your internal water filters by massaging the diluted grapefruit essential oil over your lower abdomen and back.
+To ease symptoms of fatigue, diffuse the oil or applying a drop over your chest to increase your energy levels.
+Flea Repellant: Spray oil diluted with water on dogs to repel fleas. Perfect for spring time nuisances! Avoid this oil with cats.
MANUKA ESSENTIAL OIL:
Manuka Essential Oil comes from the myrtle family, Myrtaceae, and is native to Australia and New Zealand. Steam distilled from the leaves and stems of the plant, Manuka oil has a woodsy, slightly sweet scent. Manuka essential oil can be compared to Tea Tree essential oil, as Manuka oil benefits the skin in a similar way. Manuka is great to help with dry scalp, soothes bug bites, and also helps those battling with the occasional stress or anxiety.
The essential oil of Manuka blends well with essential oils of Clary Sage, Clove, Geranium, Lavender, Marjoram, Nutmeg, Pine, Rosemary, and Ylang-Ylang.
IDEAS FOR USE:
+Apply topically to skin as a spot treatment.
+Apply directly to underarms to help reduce body odor. Manuka oil can be added to lotions and carrier oils and massaged into the skin, and it can be mixed with a liquid soap or shower gel each time you bathe or shower.
+To combat foot odor dilute a few drops of Manuka oil in your shower gel or liquid soap and wash feet well every day. You can also pop a few drops of the oil into a foot spa or a bowl of water and give your feet a relaxing soak.
+Wound Treatment: Clean wounds with plain, cool water first and be sure to flush out any dirt and debris, then use a wash made with Manuka Essential Oil to cleanse the area. Use several drops of oil in a small amount of water and stir briskly to mix. Use a cotton ball to dab the wash onto the wound.
Add Manuka Essential Oil to your regular shampoo to make an effective dry scalp shampoo. Just add a few drops of the oil to a normal amount of shampoo each time you wash.
+You can also make an overnight treatment by mixing Manuka with coconut (or another) carrier oil. Massage it into your scalp and through your hair then cover up with a shower cap to protect your bed linens. In the morning shampoo your hair as normal to wash out the oil.
+Use Manuka to soothe sunburn. If skin is too sore to accept an oil being smoothed over its surface, you can mix Mnuka Oil with water and spray it onto the affected skin, or mix it with soothing aloe vera gel. The gel is an effective remedy itself that cools and heals sunburn and the addition of Manuka will provide even more relief and effective healing. Aloe vera gel slides over severly sunburned skin without causing pain and it’s even more soothing if you keep it in the fridge.
+To assist with stomach discomfort, mix Manuka with a carrier oil suc has coconut, sunflower or olive oil, and massage into the lower abdomen.
+Use to assist in normal breathing: Manuka oil’s expectorant action will unblock stuffy noses and loosen mucus on your chest. Dilute the oil with a carrier and massage into your chest, back and throat.
+Use a steam to quickly clear nasal and sinus congestion. Boil water and carefully pour it into a ceramic bowl (the oil will taint plastics) and add 2 or 3 drops of Manuka Essential Oil. Drape a towel over your head and lean over the steaming water, using the towel to make a tent that traps the steam. Keep inhaling the steam until the water cools and the steam is gone.
+Manuka is able to promote relaxation and ease aching muscles. Its sedative properties help to calm an overactive mind and induce sleep.
Add manuka oil to your evening bath, use it as a massage oil or add a few drops to an aromatherapy diffuser and enjoy the calming aroma.
LEMONGRASS ESSENTIAL OIL:
Lemongrass is an herb that belongs to the grass family of Poaceae. It has a light and fresh lemony scent with earthy undertones and is stimulating, relaxing, soothing and balancing. It is high in antioxidant properties and contains substances used to alleviate muscle discomfort, regulate body temperature and to stimulate uterus and menstrual flow.
Lemongrass is also a source of some very essential vitamins such as Vitamin A, B1, B2, B3, B5 & B6, Folate, and Vitamin C. It provides essential minerals such as magnesium, phosphorus, manganese, copper, potassium calcium, zinc and iron.
Besides being a delicious citrusy seasoning in Thai cooking, when distilled, this thready grass holds SO much healing power! It can be used topically to soothe sore muscles and ward off seasonal annoyances and it can also be used internally to help regulate your digestive system! It's bright and uplifting fragrance is also great added in your skincare products and in homemade deodorizers. I personally love to use this to scent my dryer balls (*which are free this month in our Essential Rewards Wellness Box!!)
IDEAS FOR USE:
+Apply topically and diffuser to ease head tension.
+Reduce stomach discomfort. Mix a couple drops of lemongrass essential oil with a carrier oil of choice and massage directly onto the stomach.
+Diffuse 3 -5 drops as a natural way to stimulate the mind and boost energy.
+Use lemongrass as a natural and safe air freshener or deodorizer. You can add the oil to water and use it as a misting room spray or diffuse to add a fresh scent in your home. To customize your scent, this oil blends well with Lavendr or Peppermint, so mix it up and have some fun customizing your own natural fragrance!
+Skin Health! Lemongrass is known to aide in healing the skin as well as in evening out skin tone for that beautiful glow!! This oil is effective for ALL skin types--yay!!! Add lemongrass to your current facial cleanser to help with a thorough cleanse. By the end of this month your skin is going to look AMAZING!!!
+DIY a natural toner with this oil. It will also strengthen skin tissues as you use it. I like to add this to some witch hazel and tone away!
+Lemongrass is a great addition to shampoos, conditioners, deodorants, soaps and lotions! It aides in strengthening hair follicles so if you are struggling with hair loss or an itchy/irritated scalp, massage a few drops into your scalp for 2 minutes and then rinse away! This will leave your hair shiny, fresh and odor free!
+Because of it's high citral and geraniol content, lemongrass is known as an amazing choice to ward off seasonal annoyances. It has a mild smell and can be applied topically by spraying directly on the skin before going outside.
+Use lemongrass to aide in a full nights sleep? Yes, indeed! It also helps to calm the occasional stress and anxiety, and everrrrryyone needs a little some of that! Create your own lemongrass massage oil or add it to your current body lotion and apply as needed.
+Use lemongrass as a detox by adding to your tea. Doing so will also help to soothe stomach discomfort during that time of the month.
