Amp Up Your Laundry Routine!

I've been doing a little experiment in the laundry room lately. My goal was to find a way to make my clothing smell amazing while still using a natural detergent. I also wanted something to amp up the stain fighting power when my son comes indoors with his clothes covered in mud and grass stains. It's something that's never ending in life as a boy mom!

I think many of us have been programmed to think that our linens and clothes have to have that "fresh linen" scent in order to be clean (and appealing). But what we may not realize is that fragrance is actually one of the many harmful ingredients adding to our toxic overload. That one word alone on an ingredients list can house up to 3,000 toxic chemicals. And when you think about it, that's not something you want in and on your body is it? Over the course of time those laundry room toxins lead to many different health issues, including infertility, respiratory, skin issues and more.

So here are my tips I've come up with so far for amping up our laundry routine:

STEP 1: Change out your detergent to a TRULY natural option.

Thieves Laundry Soap is my absolute favorite laundry detergent. It's Free of SLS, Dyes, Petrochemicals, Formaldyhyde, Optical Brighteners, Synthetic Fregrance, Colors and more. It's THE best stuff ever and my I've never had a complaint about my clothing not getting thoroughly clean. It smells faintly like the Christmas Season, but again, for those of us who want a more intense effect, here's what I've done to amp up the aroma!

Magic Stain Remover—

Here's my natural version of a traditional stain stick.

1/3 undiluted Thieves Household Cleaner + 1/3 undiluted Thieves Dish Soap + 1/3 Hydrogen Peroxide + 15 drops Lemon Essential Oil.

I love to add this to a 30ml roller bottle and swipe right on to clothes and throw them right into the wash.

Fabric Softener—

Approximately 2 Cups Kosher salt (don’t use Epsom salt if you have hard water. It’ll make the water even harder) + 30 drops Lemongrass + 30 drops Lavender. I've been adding this to the softener section of my top loader and LOVING how soft my clothes and towels are and how incredible they smell.

+If you own a top loader, toss this in before you add the clothes!

Dryer Balls--

These are incredible because they cut down all the dry time. Plus, if you find your clothes need an extra boost, just add some of those same essential oils and allow them to amp up the aroma even more!!

Hope these laundry tips help! From one laundry to another, I hope you realize it's NOT hard at all to live chemical free!

xx Krista
